Ted Simon Comes to Langley!
April 20th 2008 - Press Release

The Road Apples were honoured by a guest appearance from our friend and fellow member Mr. Ted Simon.

A blue gray Toyota pickup pulled into my driveway. The driver door opened and out stepped a man in his 70s, lookiing more like someone in his 50s, wearing a green jumper - it was none other than the legendary Ted Simon. It was a great event finally meeting the legend in person, although I had spoken to him before, it is always a treat meeting someone face-to-face for the first time.

After a brief break and introduction to my daughter and wife, we set forth to the Langley Public Library. It was very surreal: here was the world renown motorcycle traveler driving me in a pickup truck to a presentation on motorcycles ... wow!

We arrived at the venue and snuck into through the front doors ... it wasn't until we go halfway that the people started to "swarm" us (or should I say Ted Simon), but it was a cool feeling for me none the less. When we arrived  we saw the sea of people waiting to hear Mr. Simon talk about his latest book and his travels. We had expected about 30 people, and we stopped counting at 150!.

We setup his A/V equipment and we all sat down to the presentation:

We spent a delightful 2 hours mesmerized by his tales, and were all treated with an opportunity to buy his latest book and have him autograph it ... that and anything else you can imagine! The lineup went all around the inside of the building. Good thing that all these people were cool and calm motorcyclists!!

After the presentation, I had to do what a host had to do to any friend and weary traveler - offer him a nice meal. So back we went to my humble abode. We had a fine evening with a great meal and even better company.

All in all, it was an outstanding success, and a night I will cherish!
